Memorial Day Salute
Pets with Salmonella infections may have decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. If left untreated, pets may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans.
Individuals handling dry pet food can become infected with Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with surfaces exposed to this product. People who believe they may have been exposed to Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. According to the Centers for Disease Control, people who are more likely to be affected by Salmonella include infants, children younger than 5 years old, organ transplant patients, people with HIV/AIDS and people receiving treatment for cancer. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have received a limited number of reports of salmonellosis, the illness caused by Salmonella.

I am a little girl strayed from my mom while she was looking for food and the truck she guarded us in for warmth drove away, dropping us on the road. My burnt little paw pads are healed now and I'm ready to go to my permanent home around June 15th. I'm quiet and gentle. My little brother (black and white) needs a home too. He loves to snuggle and is very playfull.
Dr. Marrinson was honored to meet with volunteers at the Hospice of the Comforter. These dedicated individuals donate their time to the center by bringing their own pets to brighten the days of hospice patients. Dr. Marrinson gave a presentation about the historical relationship between humans and animals and how that relationship is mutually beneficial. The volunteers shared touching stories of the positive effects their pets have had on hospice patients and how these experiences affected them personally. Spending time with these selfless and devoted pet owners was a great experience and their dogs were equally amazing.
Due to recent reports of human salmonella infections linked to dog food products recalled by Diamond Pet Foods, the company expanded the recall to another six of their brands.

Dr. Marrinson's dog-daughter Lilly stopped by to send a Happy Cinco de Maio to all of all clients and patients, and to remind all the dogs that burrito and margaritas are out of boundaries, even today!!!
May the fourth be with you today!!
Hurray!!! Today we are CELEBRATING 600 days of no missing fingers, no teeth marks on heels, no technician running to the "human" doctor, in summary, no acidents. If you consider the amount of teeth and claws we encounter every day, this is a big reason to celebrate. And now we go back to work hoping that we can celebrate 601 tomorrow!
Missouri-based Diamond Pet Foods is voluntarily recalling three types of dry dog food because of salmonella concerns.
All three products were made at a Gaston, S.C., plant, where production was suspended April 8. The plant is the same one that made mold-contaminated food that killed dozens of dogs nationwide in 2005.
A statement Monday from the company said the latest recall involves its Diamond Puppy Formula dry dog food. No canine illnesses have been reported.
The product was distributed to customers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
The company also announced that it was recalling batches of its Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Adult Light Formula and Diamond Naturals Lamb Meal & Rice.
We would like to take this time to reiterate the fact that we recommend Hill’s Science Diet and Hill’s Prescription Diet to our clients. Our doctors have personally visited the Hill’s research facility, as well as their food production plant, and have found both of those facilities to be more than satisfactory in care and treatment of the patients, as well as cleanliness and quality control of food production. Hill’s brand food is the food that our doctors and team trust to feed their own pets as well as yours.
On April 18, cat owners around the world will be celebrating Pet Owner’s Independence Day. The idea is to switch roles with your feline so that she will take over all the household chores, and possibly step into your shoes at work while you pamper yourself, lie around the house all day napping and work on your sun tan.
Sadly, it coincided with "Cat become deaf for a day" Day.
So, as my cats start on their post-breakfast nap and I'm here at work after scooping their boxes, walk the dog, fed all of them, etc, etc... I'm wondering What would you do in a day if you could really switch places with your cat (or dog)?
